Elmer R. Galbraith was born on January 30, 1913, in Mason, Kentucky. Before entering military service, Elmer worked for General Motors in Ohio. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and departed for overseas service in April 1943. After seeing combat in Sicily and other campaigns, he landed with his unit near Groesbeek during Operation Market Garden. Elmer served with C Battery, 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. On October 1, 1944, Elmer and his comrades came under enemy fire while positioned near Dekkerswald. Elmer was killed in action at the age of 31.
