ack was born on August 21, 1925, in Luray, Kansas, the fifth of six children. He married Phyllis Rosamind Ferris on March 23, 1943, before entering military service on October 13, 1943. After completing his parachute training, he was assigned to G Company, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He made his first combat jump on September 17, 1944, during Operation Market Garden. During a fierce German counterattack near Breedeweg on October 8, Jack was wounded and taken to an aid station. He died from his wounds there the following day. Jack was 19 years old.
