A.G. Gardner was born on October 18, 1919, in the town of Bradley, Arkansas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1940 and eventually joined the 82nd Airborne Division. He was assigned to B Battery, 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, and landed near Groesbeek during Operation Market Garden. On September 25, 1944, he was seriously wounded in the chest and upper arm by German artillery fire and was killed in action near Dekkerswald at the age of 24.
